Melania Trump receives Women of Distinction award

First Lady Melania Trump speaks about Be Best campaign when she accepts the Women of Distinction award

Every year, the Women of Distinction Luncheon honors women who cherish community, family and those who want to preserve ideals for others.

The private Christian university that hosts this event has carried on the tradition for more than 25 years. The luncheon also includes a scholarship fund for deserving female students.

According to the university, First Lady Melania Trump received this award for the hard work she’s done serving the people in the U.S from the private university she respects and loves.

“Today we pay tribute to an inspirational First Lady who has put a call to action and provided hope to millions around the world especially children,” university President William Fleming said.

With the hope of taking care of the next generation, Trump said she hopes to teach children to cherish their values, care for each other and be better prepared to carry on America’s legacy of compassion, service and patriotism.

“Be Best has been shining a light on programs across the country and overseas that help our youth understand what it means to Be Best,” Trump said.

It's been two years since the launch of the Be Best campaign. Be Best focuses on three pillars: well-being, online safety and opioid abuse.

“Technology has become a daily part of our children's lives in both positive and negative ways. We live in an age where too many people allow the number of retweets or likes to define their self-worth,” Trump said.

According to Trump, adults need to take the responsibility to pass along their wisdom and build children's confidence to have the best opportunity to succeed in life.

Her mission is for Be Best to play a major role in spreading awareness, highlighting successful programs and acts of kindness and encouraging public-private sector relationships to help children overcome the struggles they face every day.

Trump’s priority is to continue to promote Be Best principles within all government agencies and with elected officials. With over 20 Be Best ambassadors, the focus is to make resources and opportunities available within their agency and use them to make a difference in children's lives.
