From group home, to homeowner

Habitat for Humanity dedicates homes to families for affordable living. Karla Thompson and her family feel blessed to be chosen to receive a home from the organization; but Thompson said hard work and dedication are what got her to this point of being able to build a new home.

Thompson had been a part of Adopt-A-Family of the Palm Beaches for a while when the moment finally came for her to become a homeowner. The feeling of not having to share rooms or showers brought the joy of recognizing things were starting to work in her favor.

Thompson is the guardian of her niece and grandniece, who will reside in the new home as well.

“The joy is knowing that a dream is truly coming true,” Thompson said. “I am finally getting something I work so hard for.”

Working hard alongside Thompson are the volunteers who have come together to help build her dream from the ground up. For every hammer to a nail, every brush stroke of paint and hinge on a door, Thompson says she is truly thankful.
