As a new semester begins, Palm Beach Atlantic students adjust to a routine, classes and living situation. Upperclassmen adjust with experience, whereas freshmen settle in utter chaos.

Ariana Gomez, an incoming freshman, describes the experience as overwhelming, with so many highs and lows packed into such a short period of time. While it has been an exciting period, there have been many obstacles.
“These last two weeks have forced me to come out of my comfort zone. Rather than staying in my room,” said Gomez.
Many freshmen, like Gomez, are adjusting to living on their own. They all share the same concerns as the upperclassmen.
“It was absolutely nerve-racking coming from Connecticut,” said sophomore Valentina Peñafiel.“Being in a whole new state was scary.”
Bianca Green, a junior, found her dorm experience tough due to a lack of connections. Living in close quarters can build long-term relationships or awkward interactions.
Getting involved in PBA’s community is one of Peñafiel's biggest encouragements to freshmen. “It can be hard to go out and attend events, but that is the only way you will make connections.”
PBA offers several events to help create an atmosphere where people interact and make meaningful friendships down the road: Skate at Eight, Christival, Bible study, intramurals and Sailfish cup.
“It is hard to make friends when you do not put yourself out there,” said Peñafiel.
Peñafiel and Green, now upperclassmen, remember their challenges adjusting to college life. Green credits the community she found being a part of the softball team. Peñafiel goes on to say that learning how to be an active member of the student body helped her grow.
“Trust the process; having struggles is normal, but you will grow from it,” said Green. “Enjoy college while you can. It goes by fast.”
